Erectile dysfunction
What is erectile dysfunction?
Whatever the physical causes of the disorder, any form of erectile dysfunction is frustrating for a man. The causes of erectile dysfunction vary depending on the age and health of the patient. However, regardless of what exactly causes erectile dysfunction, it is important to look at the problem, try to diagnose the causes of erectile dysfunction and take appropriate treatment.
Causes of erectile problems
It is difficult to say clearly what causes erectile dysfunction. The causes of the disorder are complex and depend on lifestyle, age, and the health of the body as a whole.
Common causes of erectile dysfunction include cardiovascular disease. For patients being treated for cardiovascular disease or hypertension, erection problems are common. According to available statistics, almost half of patients with coronary artery disease have erection problems (as many as 46%), and the vast majority of patients with heart failure struggle with this problem (as many as 84%). In addition, doctors point out that many risk factors for cardiovascular disease and erectile dysfunction are common.
It should be mentioned here that sexual intercourse can be characterised as physical exertion. It is not surprising then that patients with cardiac problems, e.g., those burdened by ischaemic heart disease, notice a decrease in sexual satisfaction associated with a reduction in physical performance.
Endocrine disorders can also cause a lack of erections. Endocrine diseases can hinder a man's full sexual performance. One disease that often causes erectile dysfunction is diabetes. This is a disease resulting from an abnormal secretion of the hormone insulin from the pancreas. However, the endocrine disruption present with diabetes is not the main source of impotence. What causes erectile dysfunction? These are vascular and neurological changes that are among the complications of diabetes.
Other causes of erectile dysfunction include thyroid hormone disorders, or too high levels of female hormones in the male body. These causes of erectile dysfunction require specialist consultation, and most likely pharmacological treatment.
Of course, other reasons for the onset of the disorder may be related to testosterone deficiency. Testosterone is one of the most important male hormones and is responsible for, among other things, the development of male sexual characteristics, sexual desire, spermatogenesis or maintaining an adequate amount of muscle tissue. The causes of erectile dysfunction and testosterone deficiency sometimes go hand in hand, but some scientists consider the role of testosterone in the mechanism of erection to be unclear and controversial. Scientists agree that testosterone deficiency negatively affects the
Risk factors leading to erectile dysfunction
As we well know, the causes of erectile dysfunction are complex. While some men will require drug treatment to treat cardiovascular disease or control diabetes, others may benefit from lifestyle changes.
Risk factors that increase the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and therefore erectile dysfunction include overweight and obesity, hypertension, smoking and lipid disorders.
This is hard for some men to accept, but most likely without a lifestyle change, satisfying erections simply won't return.
The role of lifestyle in erectile dysfunction
The role of lifestyle is very important in the prevention of erectile dysfunction and the treatment of the cause of erectile dysfunction. Given that cardiovascular disease is often responsible for erectile problems, a change in lifestyle to one that positively affects our cardiovascular system certainly won't hurt!
What kind of lifestyle change are we talking about? It is mainly about changing your current diet to a healthier one, increasing your physical activity, and quitting smoking. To prevent the development of any cardiovascular disease, regular aerobic exercise such as brisk walking and running, swimming or cycling is very important. Combined with strength training and a healthy, balanced diet, such a lifestyle greatly reduces the risk factor for cardiovascular disease and therefore erectile dysfunction.
Is it possible to avoid all risk factors? Everyone tries to balance many different things in their lives and it is impossible to avoid all risk factors. It is obvious that from time to time a person will have a glass of wine or eat a less healthy meal. However, in order to reduce the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and erectile problems, the most important thing is to have balance in one's life, rather than pathologically avoiding all risk factors. Reducing stress and living peacefully in harmony with oneself is also important. Causes of erectile dysfunction that require drug treatment do occur, but there are also many changes a man can make on his own that will positively affect the quality and length of his erections.
